About Tiruvallur District and Its History

  • In the 7th century, the Tiruvallur district was ruled by Pallavas. After that Nawab of Arcot, Mughals, French, Dutch, and finally British captured this place in the 19th century like other districts in Tamilnadu.
  • This district was first called Chengal pattu District. Later it was changed to Chengai M.G.R District. After that, this district was separated from Tiruvallur M.G.R District. In 1997, this district was finally decided and named Tiruvallur District (District Headquarters Name).
  • Chennai, Vellore and Kanchipuram districts are these three boundaries of this district. Andhra Pradesh is another border. There is a considerable number of Telugu speakers in this district. This district is very close to Chennai. This district of commercial and industrial importance is full of famous temples. In retail spending, this district stands third after Noida and Delhi.
  • Sholavaram Lake, Puzhal Lake, Poondi Water Reservoir have been providing water to Chennai City. Famous Lord Shiva Temple is located in Surutapalli, here the main god is known as Bhoga Sayana Siva. Tourist places like Tiruvottiyur, Thiruverkadu, Palaverkadu which are adjacent to Chennai city have been merged in this district for administrative convenience.

Masi Magam, Panguni Uthiram Utsavam and Aadi Thiruvizha are well conducted here. Special Aradhana Abhishekam is held here on Sundays. Annadanam is also done on that day.

Tiruttani
Thiruttani, one of the lord murugan's Arupadai houses, is one of the specialties of Tiruvallur district. Kumaran's temple is beautifully located on top of a small hill. Aadi Krithigai Theppotsavam, Shivratri festival etc. are celebrated very well here. It is noteworthy that temple opens at 5 A.M. every morning. This temple is conveniently located for pilgrims on the way to Tirupati. The nearest major town is Kanchipuram.
